While folks up North have gardens sitting under a foot of snow, we do things a little differently here in SoFlo. While our scorching hot summers are often a bit too extreme for some of our favorite veggies, January is one of the best times of year to plant a vegetable garden!

What Can I Plant in January in Florida?

  • Arugula: Space 3–4 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Beans (Bush, Pole, Lima): Space 4–5 inches at 1½ inch soil depth
  • Beets: Space 2–4 inches at ½ inch soil depth
  • Broccoli: Space 10–15 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Brussels Sprouts: Space 18–24 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Cabbage: Space 9–16 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Cantaloupes: Space 20–36 inches at ½ inch soil depth
  • Carrots: Space 1–3 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Cauliflower: Space 12–18 inches at ¼ inch soil depth
  • Celery: Space 6–12 inches and press seeds gently onto the soil surface, uncovered.
